Thanksgiving Comes to an East St. Louis Elementary School

Amidst the chaos going on in East St. Louis, the murders, and recent teacher strike- an underground awakening is happening. Now that the smoke from the strike has cleared and students have returned to the classroom, many are calling for change. Local leaders, parents, and students are beginning to take a stand for their community- recognizing the impact they have in their own neighborhoods to make a difference. Last year Men Standing Positive spent fall 2014 on the streets of East St. Louis and in the Washington Park community doing outreach, a block party, and a conference- the movement was titled Impact East Side. This year they were invited to return to Dunbar Elementary School and host MSP Fun Fest for the students, parents, and all staff. East St. Louis Senior High School and Mason Clark Middle School have also been invited to join. The free event Saturday November 21st, 2015 from 1 pm – 4 pm includes live music by local St. Louis rap/hip-hop artists: St.Lien, Saved, and MiNiMe, DJ G on the 1’s and 2’s, a bounce house, as well as a Thanksgiving dinner, and clothing giveaway provided by the Rock Church- Soulard campus. In addition, program information will be available for those interested in job training, counseling, rehabilitation, career coaching, and more. Men Standing Positive partners with a variety of programs in St. Louis to offer extra assistance for those in need; some primary examples are Crisis Nursery, Mission St. Louis, Connections to Success, and Slate. What People Are Saying // MSP Fun Fest 2014

MSP Fun Fest was the beginning of something bigger then we can imagine. This is right at the forefront of changing the murder rate or teen pregnancy and the other statistics that haunt us. This is also a way to put God first in our communities again. –Pastor Frank Jackson, MSP Fun Fest Host

The feedback I received from the Washington Park/Trinity Outreach Kids was that the MSP Fun Fest gave them the feeling that they were like leaders, and they had the power to make a difference and possibly fix the community. They said they felt like they were doing something important. They also said they wished that the program would have lasted a little longer than it did, so that they could continue to come up with ideas to make the world a better place too. I believe that all of the greater east side metro areas should have much more production models such as the MSP group. Coming through towns spreading love, clothing. – Kevin “KB” Borden, Trinity Outreach Center

I was honored to be involved with MSP’s Fun Fest at Dunbar Elementary. MSP gave me an opportunity to minister to students through music, and it was great seeing how God used us to minister to the students and the parents. Overall, the Fun Fest was a great experience for me, and I’m excited to see how God will use them to take over East St. Louis with the Gospel. – T-Jones

MSP’s Fun Fest @ Dunbar Elementary School was one of the most peaceful and beautiful God glorifying events I have ever attended. Everywhere I looked were smiling faces. God’s presence was everywhere. In the messages brought by the ministers through their music and all the volunteers that worked diligently throughout the event to give the children a safe fun atmosphere to pray, play, dance, eat, and hear about Jesus’s plan for them! There were prizes, clothes, shoes, coats and hope- beautiful hope! … the Holy Spirit permeated the air as everyone worked in harmony to bring honor and glory to our majestic and all mighty God. So many servants and prayer warriors from all around the world, all with one mind and heart came together to share of their gifts and talents to increase the Kingdom and sow seeds that will carry on for eternity! I am so blessed to have been just a teeny-tiny part of the body assembled that beautiful Saturday afternoon! Thank you MSP for your faithfulness and service! -Love, D, The Rock Church Soulard

As I was setting up my DJ equipment for the MSP Fun Fest, I didn’t know what to expect. Would the kids come to the school on a Saturday, especially with it being rainy? They came and they had a great time! I believe the impact helped build a closer relationship with Jesus. The kids rejoiced and had fun in the Lord. And I’m glad to have been a part of it, along with the entire MSP Ministry. –DJ G, New Life Music

MSP Block Party // Summer 2014

This past summer Men Standing Positive hosted one block party in East St. Louis, Illinois. Despite the heat, everyone had a great time- especially the kids as they chased each other around the parking lot with water guns. DJ G kept the party going while T-Jones, StLien, and MiNiMe brought awesome music and a dynamic Word. Our partner for this event- the Rock Church in Soulard came out and provided free food, drink, and clothing to anyone in need. Three people signed up for a local church home, two registered to vote, and many came forward at the end to re-dedicate their lives to Christ. A big thank you to all who came out, our volunteers, and our partners. We are already excited for the block parties to come in 2015! We hope to see you there!
